Maureen Fan is a freelance journalist and consultant.  She has helped San Francisco-based Link TV with their expanding Asia coverage, and the Asia Society Northern California program committee.  During a John S. Knight fellowship at Stanford University, she studied strategic philanthropy, design thinking, new venture formation, social data, multimedia journalism and California public policy.  She has also taught storytelling and reporting to non-journalists.

Fan was based in Beijing for the Washington Post from 2005 to 2009, first as correspondent then as bureau chief.  Fan joined the Post in 2004 to cover the culture of official Washington. Previously, as New York Bureau Chief for the San Jose Mercury News, she covered northeast business and technology, 9/11 and postwar Iraq for Knight Ridder Newspapers.
